Control testing without the scramble

When storage is intentional, testing becomes a calendar habit rather than a scavenger hunt. Here is how United Kingdom teams in our programmes schedule checks that stay light.

Collaborative meeting for process design

Separate gathering from judging

Scramble happens when gathering and evaluating share the same frantic window. Continuous approaches pull gathering forward—into capture triggers—so testing time is spent on judgement: does this sample meet the control intent?

Size the test to the risk

Not every control needs a weekly deep dive. Map frequency to how quickly failure would hurt. High-velocity payment controls might deserve frequent lightweight samples; annual policy acknowledgements can live on a slower rhythm.

Control Mapping Studio walks teams through this sizing exercise using language both auditors and operators recognise.

Protect the calendar

Publish the test dates next to month-end close and known delivery freezes. Continuous auditing fails quietly when checks are always “next week.” A visible calendar, even a simple shared one, keeps the promise honest.
